“Additive-free” records an inspection carried out before October 2024, when the public verified list was withdrawn. It is a historical record, not a check you can repeat today — here is why. A dash means no inspection was ever published, which is not an accusation.
One distillery, two price tiers
Both lines are 100% agave. What separates them is production choices and aging rather than a quality floor: el Jimador is positioned as the everyday bottle, Herradura as the step up. A drinker who likes one has a reasonable chance of liking the other, which is not something the branding makes obvious.
One practical note from handling the bottles: on the US el Jimador, NOM 1119 is printed on the front label, not the back. NOM placement is not standardised — it can sit on the front, the back, the neck, or the base. If you cannot find it in the usual place, keep turning the bottle.
A correction worth recording
Several tequila reference sites list Herradura under NOM 1414. That is wrong. It is 1119, confirmed against distillery records and then against the number printed on the bottle itself. Getting a NOM wrong is the most common error in this corner of the internet, which is the reason this directory exists.
